Garth Brooks Joins Kansas City Royals to Celebrate Two World Series Championships

Garth Brooks has a deep love of baseball, and last week that longstanding adoration for America's pastime drew him to Kansas City's Union Station for a gala honoring the Royals' 1985 and 2015 World Series championship teams.

"It's pretty cool when you step on stage and it's just a stage full of Hall of Famers and future Hall of Famers!" Garth says.

His setlist for the night included a version of Happy Birthday for National Baseball Hall of Famer George Brett, who turned 72 on May 15.

"It happened to be George Brett's birthday, so the message was Happy Birthday from one GB to another!" Garth laughs.

Garth's history with Kansas City is long and diverse. Not only did he play his very first show at the Kansas City Opry, but he also performed nine sold-out shows at T-Mobile Center and headlined GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Garth traded his microphone for a baseball mitt in 2004 when he joined the Kansas City Royals for their spring training camp in Surprise, Arizona, to raise awareness of his Teammates for Kids. He participated in the team’s spring training games, played left field and even got a couple of hits -- including a single off Mike Myers in the ninth inning against the Mariners. A few years later, Garth launched his sports-themed Tailgate Radio station on TuneIn from the Kansas City sports complex.
