Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk Declares September 25 ‘Dolly Day’ to Support Imagination Library and Children's Literacy

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are honoring Dolly Parton in a way that celebrates both her remarkable life and her passion for helping children.

Brooks and Yearwood’s Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk will honor Parton on Sept. 25 by declaring the date “Dolly Day.” The choice of 9/25 is a nod to Parton’s iconic hit “9 to 5.” On that day, Friends in Low Places will donate its entire income for the day to children's literacy. The couple plans to make “Dolly Day” an annual event at FILP.

"Whatever the cash register says at the end of the day is going to Dolly's passion," Yearwood said. "This is 100% about Dolly and her love for children's literacy."

Parton died peacefully Aug. 25 in Nashville at age 80. Instead of flowers, her family asked that donations be made to the Imagination Library, the children’s literacy program Parton founded in 1995. Parton’s beloved father never learned to read or write. He inspired her to create the Imagination Library, which has given more than 300 million free books to children ages birth to 5 worldwide.

For Brooks, honoring Parton means celebrating the extraordinary breadth of her accomplishments while also supporting work that will continue to make a difference for generations to come.

“Dolly may be the perfect example of if you spend your whole life loving, you WILL live forever,” Brooks said.

Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk is located at 411 Broadway in downtown Nashville.
