The Chase is the most personal recording of Garth’s career. Feeling the pressures of balancing family and career, Garth’s raw emotions came through, and the result is both fiery and quietly thoughtful. The Chase contains two of the most poignant lyrics in country music: “Learning To Live Again” and “Somewhere Other Than the Night.” The co-written first single, "We Shall Be Free," was written in the aftermath of the 1992 Los Angeles riots, and is considered one of the music world’s most commanding testaments to brotherhood and tolerance.
The Chase was the second album in Billboard history to debut at #1 in both the Billboard Top 200 Albums and Country Albums charts. In addition to winning multiple country industry awards, Garth was named Top Male Singer by Entertainment Weekly readers. Runners-up included Bruce Springsteen and Axl Rose. At the People’s Choice Awards, Garth was named both Favorite Male Country Musical Performer and Favorite Male Musical Performer. The video for “We Shall Be Free” won Video of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Garth appeared on the covers of Time, the Saturday Evening Post, People, Entertainment Weekly and Forbes, with Forbes declaring: Country Conquers Rock.
The Chase is RIAA certified for sales in excess of 8 million units.
